The mission of the Mt. Pleasant Heritage House is to bridge gaps in the education, employment, and socioeconomic well-being of community members in the Mt. Pleasant area.

 
 

The rich culture that is exemplified in the art, music, drama, and history of urban community members is the foundation of all programming of the Mt. Pleasant Heritage House.

In this endeavor, we hope to inform and encourage an appreciation of diverse people and have a better understanding of different cultures, traditions, and ways of life. Our ultimate goal is to help bridge the gap in education on global awareness and promote mutual respect for all people.

We have virtual programs for viewing our International Traveling Museum artifacts, including its cultural diversity presentations for corporate organizations, schools, libraries, community groups, etc. Please contact us for pricing for your Company/Organization.

Yvonne Malcolm - Executive Director of the Traveling Museum of International Cultures

Yvonne Malcolm is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. She is a state of Ohio certified-licensed elementary and middle school teacher, who is also endorsed as an English Second Language teacher. Yvonne Malcolm is a member of the Board of Christian Education of the Antioch Baptist Church of Cleveland, Ohio. Her experiences include teaching at an international school in Ohio, where her students were international from all over the world. Yvonne's hobbies include collecting antiques, African -American memorabilia, and researching and collecting historical artifacts. These unique experiences over the past 20 years have led her and her siblings (Cheryl and Yolanda ) in the start of the International traveling museum to the already existing Mt. Pleasant Heritage House. She likes to write, and direct plays involving adults and children alike in performances. Presently she is serving as the director for the Traveling Museum of International Cultures.


Yolanda Burt - President of the Board of Trustees

Yolanda Burt is an educator, consultant, and humanitarian. As an instructor at Cleveland State University (CSU), Ms. Burt teaches the Intro to Black Studies course which explores the history & culture of people from the African diaspora. She also teaches African American Family Life, which is designed to facilitate students’ knowledge and understanding of various dimensions of the African American family. In addition, she has presented internationally at Oxford University, England and Addis Abba University, Ethiopia.  She also helped to establish Ethiopia’s first Community Work & Life Center and the Ethiopian Employers Federation’s Business Center to increase the quality of life of the people of Ethiopia. Ms. Burt was the first African American, person of color and first female Director of CSU’s Career Services Center. She continues to serve in leadership capacities in organizations that positively impacts youth, and community members. One such notable organization is the Mt. Pleasant Heritage House Cultural Arts & Resource Center.


Cheryl Pailin - Executive Director of Mt. Pleasant Heritage House Incorporated

Cheryl B. Pailin is the Director, Contracts Operations at the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) Dallas.  As the Contracts Director, Ms. Pailin is responsible for leading the contract administration efforts of approximately 80 civilians and military reservist personnel who execute worldwide contract management responsibilities, covering more than 12,200 contracts and $44 billion in total obligations. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Relations from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.  She has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Baylor University in Waco, TX.  Her awards and recognitions include numerous Superior Performance Awards; Special Act Awards; One Team, Indispensable Partner, and Keeping The Promise Core Value Awards; and Exceptional Civilian Service Award. Additionally, as a playwright, Ms. Pailin’s works are known for their positive imagery, strong characters, and moral content. Her philosophy is to let her light so shine that men will see her good works and glorify God.
